Il progetto rientra nel quadro del programma per il restauro delle fortificazioni che cingono la capitale Valletta, la località di Birgu (Vittoriosa), l’antica capitale Mdina e la Cittadella di Vittoria, nell’isola di Gozo. L’iniziativa, recentemente approvata dalla Commissione UE, comporta un investimento complessivo di 36 milioni di euro in 7 anni, gran parte dei quali (32,2 milioni) derivanti dalla dotazione di fondi strutturali.
Il programma, che dovrebbe essere completato entro il 2013, riguarda 135.000 metri cubi di fortificazioni lungo 6 km di perimetro. La presente gara e’ la prima di un valore considerevole ad essere pubblicata.
