Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) cathedral, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
The project involves the construction of a cathedral for the UCKG on the corner of Plein and Bree streets in Johannesburg, on a site previously occupied by a parkade. The reinforced concrete structure will be eight storeys high, two of which will be below ground, inclusive of a 2 160-m2 lower basement with classrooms, a service area and back-up generators; and a 2 225-m2 basement 1, comprising classrooms, an auxiliary nave seating 2 250 people and a baptismal font. The 2 185-m2 groung floor will have a main entrance and a 2 600-seat nave. A centre of focus will be the 4 015-m2 balcony, with access on three levels, including an upper looby, a bookshop, a lower lobby and the balcony itself seating 2 450 people. The project will use 120 t of structural steel, 13 000m2 of brickwork and 9 000m2 of concrete. The complicated structure will be furhter characterised by ranking beams, providing a colum-free cathedral auditorium. Six elevators will service the facility. Value R200-million.

Kazan Municipal Unitary Enterprise “Vodokanal” (the “Vodocanal”), the municipal water utility owned by the City of Kazan (the “City”), capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, has signed a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the “Bank”) and intends using the proceeds of the loan for a project to improve the sustainability of water and wastewater infrastructure and services in the City. Total estimated project cost is RUR 350 million, will require the procurement of the following goods, works and services:
- Rehabilitation and of the Main Wastewater Treatment Plant to enhance its operational efficiency and to improve sludge dewatering
- Rehabilitation of Iskohz Wastewater Pumping Station
- Construction of new networks in a new housing area
Tendering for the above contracts is expected to begin in the 4th quarter of 2008.
Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank will be subject to the Bank’s Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank’s loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, or for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser’s country.
