Russia : KAZAN MUNICIPAL WATER AND WASTEWATER LOAN

Kazan Municipal Unitary Enterprise “Vodokanal” (the “Vodocanal”), the municipal water utility owned by the City of Kazan (the “City”), capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, has signed a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the “Bank”) and intends using the proceeds of the loan for a project to improve the sustainability of water and wastewater infrastructure and services in the City. Total estimated project cost is RUR 350 million, will require the procurement of the following goods, works and services:

  1. Rehabilitation and of the Main Wastewater Treatment Plant to enhance its operational efficiency and to improve sludge dewatering
  2. Rehabilitation of Iskohz Wastewater Pumping Station

Construction of new networks in a new housing area Tendering for the above contracts is expected to begin in the 4th quarter of 2009.

Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank will be subject to the Bank’s Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank’s loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, or for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser’s country.
